Get to know the main beaches in Rio Grande do Norte

 

Baia Formosa

To the south of Rio Grande do Norte (104 KM from Natal), in the city of Baia Formosa, you will find a Mata Atlântica reserve still preserved by our state, called Mata da Estrela with an area of more than 2000 hectares. In Mata da Estrela, the lagoon of the Araraquara is an attractive place to visit, with its dark waters which the natives believe to have medicinal and rejuvinating powers.

   

Barra de Cunhaú

In the city of Canguaretama (75 km from Natal) is one of most beautiful beaches of the southern coast of Rio Grande do Norte. The fishing village, with its landscape consisting of mangroves, coves and open-sea beaches. Barra de Cunhaú is endowed with a wild and calm beauty. Its waters have a dark green tone, and the water coves are ideal a refreshing swim (with an average annual water temperature of 26°).

   

Jenipabu

25 km from Natal, in the city of Extremoz, is certainly the most famous postal card in Rio Grande do Norte. With its immense stretch dunes and its freshwater lagoons, Genipabu is one of the most popular must-do tours on coast of RN. The dunes of Genipabu attract tourists from all parts of the world in search of the world-famous Buggy tour!

Here's an interesting curiosity about the Dunes of Genipabu: they are mobile. The action of the wind, very intense in the RN, takes the sand from one side to another, which is what makes the landscape a new adventure, and even more risky to those that do not know the place very well.

   

Pipa

Recognized internationally, Pipa is a must-do experience for any traveler in Natal. 80 km from the capital, its landscape is made up of cliffs, clear waters, calm and warm, and much vegetation. One of the tours in Pipa includes the Santuário Ecológico (Ecological Sanctuary), with invigorating walks, picnic spots and a look-out point with an exclusive view of Baía dos Golfinhos (Dolphin Bay).

When night falls, Pipa thrives with its budding nightlife in the bars on avenida central (the main street), the local meeting point of beautiful people from all over the world, with clubs and parties until day-break.

   

Tibau do Sul

This city is 88 km from Natal and boasts some of the most secluded
beaches. They are formed by steep cliffs which make it somewhat difficult to access. Its
waters from open seas are calm and clear..

The beach, also called Tibau do Sul, has
a beautiful view of the Ocean and the Lagoa de Guaraíra with its
many picturesque fishing boats.

   

Touros

This beach, 106 km from Natal, can be accessed via the BR 101. The city of Touros shelters the first register of
Portuguese ownership on our coast. Dated back to 1501, the landmark
of Touros is National Patrimony. Among the attractions
are the lighthouse (Farol do Calcanhar), its exciting Carnival, the handicrafts and the church (Igreja do Bom Jesus dos Navegantes). The beach of Touros besides being really lively is very beautiful with its
landscape abounding in tropical coconut palms and gorgeous fishing boats.
